A Boudoir Experience from the Photographer's Perspective

Ding! I received a notification that I had a new message on my boudoir site. Excitedly, I opened it to find an inquiry from someone interested in booking a session. After answering her questions and explaining the session setup and what to expect, we began chatting back and forth. She mentioned she'd never done anything like this before, which made me think, "Great! This will be perfect!" I was thrilled to offer her a unique and empowering first-time experience.

She booked her session, and as we continued to communicate, she shared her story and her reason for booking. It was a beautiful tale of courage—she had finally mustered the strength to step out of her comfort zone and confront her struggles. I hadn't even met her yet, and I was already so proud of her!

On the big day, she arrived early, which I took as a good sign that she was ready. She walked into the studio, slightly nervous, and I greeted her with a cheerful, "Hello! Come on in! It's good to officially meet you! Now let's get you pampered!" As she settled in for her hair and makeup, we chatted about her boyfriend, her supportive friends, and her journey recovering from an eating disorder and depression, mixed with just real-life talk. When we finished, she looked absolutely stunning. The moment she saw herself in the mirror was transformative—she was glowing!

Once she was all glammed up, we picked out some lingerie outfits that she liked and that complemented her body. They were totally her vibe, and she looked amazing in them! We ventured into the studio setups, and I demonstrated the first pose to give her an idea of what to do. My ungraceful moves made us both laugh, easing any lingering nerves. I made a few adjustments to the pose to flatter her unique shape, ensuring everything was perfect.

Throughout the session, we moved through a series of poses, chatting and laughing about our embarrassingly hilarious stories. After a couple of outfit changes, she asked if we could do something with just the sheets. She opened up about her long struggle with an eating disorder and severe self-harming depression, which had left scars all over her body. She wanted to embrace them as part of her story, highlighting what made her body uniquely hers.

As a boudoir photographer, I know I have the privilege of empowering women, but moments like this leave me feeling empowered by them. We captured raw and sensual images that made her feel confident and beautiful. She couldn't believe it was her in those photos; she just needed to see herself from a different perspective. It was a meaningful moment when she finally saw what I saw.

Years have passed since our session, and she still reaches out to share exciting milestones in her life. Seeing her thrive and grow confident in her own body is a constant reminder of why I do what I do. Our time together doesn’t end once the session is over; it blossoms into an ongoing relationship of women empowering each other.
